Harland E. Samson Marketing Education Distinguished Service Award
 

PURPOSE: To recognize marketing educators who have provided the most meritorious contributions to the improvement, promotion, development, and progress of Marketing Education.

CRITERIA: The award will be presented to individuals who have contributed to or achieved prominence in the field of Marketing Education above salaried position assignments at the local, state, and national levels. Nominees who have received recognition outside of their field of work, and those who have made contributions of national significance to Marketing Education, will be most highly rated.

ELIGIBILITY: This award is presented to individuals who have devoted several years of service to Marketing Education above their required job duties. Individuals who have received special honors or recognition for job performance; who have held key state and national professional offices or committee appointments; who have had major professional publications; or who have made any other significant contributions to Marketing Education may be considered for this award. The nominee must be an MEA and/or ACTE Marketing Education Division member and must have been a member during the years of the recognized contribution.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES: A Nomination Dossier must be developed for each nominee as follows:

  1. The Harland E. Samson Marketing Education Distinguished Service Evaluation Form becomes page 1 of the Nomination Dossier.
  2. The Harland E. Samson Marketing Education Distinguished Service Nomination Form becomes page 2 of the Nomination Dossier.
  3. Support information becomes pages 3-7. This should include no more than one page each, in four sections, as follows:
    • Section A (page 3): Honors and Recognitions
    • Section B (page 4): Professional Offices Held
    • Section C (page 5): Professional Memberships and Activities
    • Section D (page 6): Professional Contributions
    • Section E (page 7): Publications and Presentations
  4. A maximum of 10 letters of support should be pages 8-17 of the Nomination Dossier. Suggested endorsers might include political leaders, professional association leaders, business and industry leaders, educational leaders, civic leaders, students, and others who are familiar with the nominee's work.
  5. A completed Public Relations and Recognition Information Form should be the last page of the Nomination Dossier.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES: All materials should be typed. Ten copies of the completed materials on three-hole-drilled paper should be submitted. Materials should not be submitted in bound notebooks and all materials must be submitted simultaneously as a completed package. Materials in other formats will not be considered. A $20 application fee is due at the same time nomination materials are submitted. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the Marketing Education Association. Materials submitted without the application fee will not be considered. Nomination materials should be sent to:

DEADLINE: All Harland E. Samson Marketing Education Distinguished Service Award Nomination Dossiers must be received in the MEA office by June 1. Award recipients may choose to have the award presented during the MEA Conference or during the ACTE Convention in December.
